KOTA KINABALU: Sabah-based horror thriller Mantera has landed a major distribution deal with Malaysia’s renowned Skop Productions, setting the stage for its nationwide release in 50 cinemas starting April 24.
Directed by Chester Pang and produced by Kota Kinabalu’s Pro-Merge Vision, the RM1.2 million film blends supernatural horror with ancient Dusunic traditions.
The story follows Tana, a young woman who inherits mystical abilities from her bobolian lineage, as she confronts a dark entity threatening her village.
Starring Jovenea Jim, Syafie Naswip, and veteran actor Namron, the film promises a chilling exploration of Sabah’s cultural heritage.
Pang, making his feature film debut, expressed hopes that Mantera will not only thrill audiences but also shed light on indigenous beliefs.
Cinematographer Tim Stephen, known for Sinakagon—Sabah’s first Netflix release—lends his visual expertise to the production.
Mantera is poised to make a mark on Malaysian cinema with its gripping narrative and strong cultural foundation.
