PAPAR: The State Government must not rely on a single water source but instead plan for Sabah’s long-term water needs, said Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
He stressed the importance of a sustainable water supply plan that extends beyond 30 to 40 years, ensuring stability for residents, industries, and investors.
He supported the decision to keep the Papar Dam project under review but emphasised the need for alternative solutions to secure Sabah’s water future.
Armizan, who is also Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, said this after officiating the Servis Ihsan Madani @ Petronas AutoExpert (SIM@PAX) and Ikhlas Ramadan with Gas Petronas programme here, on Saturday.
The Papar Dam, originally the Kaiduan Dam project, faced strong opposition due to NGO concerns, opposition leaders, and affected residents.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya recently confirmed the project remains under review while the government develops other infrastructure to meet water demand.
