Drugs: Housewife, six others jailed
On the first count, she was jailed eight months for possessing 0.03g of syabu. The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a penalty of up to RM100,000 in fines, up to five years in jail, or both upon conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old housewife and six others were jailed for drug-related offences in the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday.

Rubina Senti, an illegal immigrant, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to two separate charges involving syabu (methamphetamine).

On the first count, she was jailed eight months for possessing 0.03g of syabu. The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a penalty of up to RM100,000 in fines, up to five years in jail, or both upon conviction.

On the second count, she was jailed seven months for consuming syabu.

Rubina pleaded for leniency, saying she was merely a housewife and had a child to care for.

However, the court ordered her sentences to run from the date of her arrest and to be handed over to the Immigration Department for further action after serving jail.

Four men were also convicted for consuming syabu under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, upon conviction.

Jerry Ronnie, Mohd Al-Rasul, Callixtus Steven and Marjun Abu, pleaded guilty to the charges. Jerry, Mohd Al-Rasul, and Callixtus were jailed seven months. Marjun received six months jail.

All four were ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing their sentences.

Separately, Rafiq Saidul and Alsobri Ali were also convicted for drug possession and sentenced to jail terms. Rafiq was jailed 10 months for possessing 0.52g of syabu. Alsobri received eight months for 0.02g of syabu.

Both were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of up to RM100,000 in fines, up to five years in jail, or both, upon conviction.

However, Alsobri pleaded not guilty to the second charge for taking syabu which is punishable under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. 

The court set April 7 for pre-trial case management for Alsobri.

All sentences are to run from the date of their arrests.

All the accused were represented by counsel Lim Ming Zing @ Lawrence, who pleaded for leniency.
