BEAUFORT: Towing services transporting vehicles are in high demand here in the current floods, with many waiting their turn especially along the road from Kg Bukau to Ai Zen (Batu 5).
A road user from Sipitang said with water levels reaching about three to four feet deep, it was extremely risky for light vehicles to pass through.
As a result, motorists used towing services to safely negotiate the flooded section.
“Besides worrying about vehicles falling into drains, we were also concerned that cars might suddenly stall in the middle of the road, causing additional problems and damage to the vehicles,” he said.
He said users were charged RM50 per one-way trip to tow a car to a safe location, allowing them to continue their journey toward Kota Kinabalu or Sipitang.
However, heavy vehicles and four-wheel drives were still able to pass the flooded route.
It was reported that the vehicle towing services continued well into the night that day.
In Sipitang, the concrete bridge at Meligan River was submerged by floodwaters the same day.
Markus Buas said road users had to wait for hours for the water to recede until it was safe to cross the bridge.
“This is a scenario that frequently occurs at this concrete bridge during rainy weather, delaying journeys either toward Long Pasia or Sipitang town,” Markus said.
