SANDAKAN: A 60-year-old foreign woman detained for illegally entering Malaysian waters was given the opportunity to bid a final farewell to her late husband on Monday.

Sandakan District Police Chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah, said the woman was arrested at 10:20 PM on Sunday while attempting to enter the country unlawfully via Pulau Taganak.

"The investigation is conducted according to procedures while upholding the rule of law and human rights, as outlined in the fourth principle of the Rukun Negara," he stated.

As a humanitarian gesture, the Sandakan District Police Headquarters escorted her to Kampung Sundang to see her husband's remains for the last time.

She is being investigated under Section 5(2) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
