KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they are examining the videos submitted by the Lawyers of Liberty over the alleged Sabah mining scandal.
"We have called in the lawyer who delivered the videos to facilitate our investigations this afternoon," he told a media conference after witnessing the inking ceremony of the memorandum of cooperation between MACC and DBKK, here, Tuesday.
"We will also summoned Albert Tei tomorrow (Wednesday), who was mentioned by former MACC Chief Commission Latheefa Koya, to record his statement and gather testimony to assist in the investigations," he added.
On whether the videos submitted are the full unedited version, he said that is what Latheefa claims.
He assured that the MACC would conduct a fair and professional investigation regardless of anyone's background.
Regarding the latest video allegedly involving Sabah Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya, Azam said any video evidence must be authentic to be admissible.
He said that the MACC is guided by the law and the public prosecutor in conducting investigations.
"We do not conduct investigations outside the legal framework or based on public perception," he said.
He assured that the MACC is working diligently on the case but pointed out the need to follow legal procedures.
He denied allegations of selective investigation or attempts to protect any parties involved.
"There is no issue of us trying to delay or protect any party," Azam said.
He said the MACC's role is to investigate, while decisions to charge individuals are made by the public prosecutor.
Additionally, he said the MACC is handling all high-profile cases professionally without bias, working with the resources currently available to them.
