TAWAU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah has detained a construction company owner suspected of submitting claims containing false details amounting to approximately RM60,000.  

According to sources, the male suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at around 10 a.m. today when he appeared to provide a statement at the MACC Sabah Tawau branch office.  

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the act in 2021.  

"He is suspected of submitting fraudulent claims that did not meet actual specifications to a state government agency. The claims involved repair work on four houses under the Hardcore Poor People's Housing Program (PPRT) in one of the districts in the state, with an estimated cost of around RM15,000 per house," the source said.  

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC Act) 2009.  

However, he added that the suspect was released on a RM2,000 bail with one guarantor after his statement was recorded.
