MEMBAKUT: The State Government will channel financial assistance to schools throughout Sabah affected by the recent floods.
State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, who is also Sabah’s Education Exco, said the assistance would be channelled through the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS).
He said similar assistance was provided to 17 schools affected by floods last year, totalling RM360,000.
“The State Government through TPNS will channel aid to all schools affected by floods, whether in Membakut, Beaufort, Tenom, Keningau, or other districts.
“Assistance is also provided for other needs such as cleaning, replacement of damage and so on, amounting to RM5,000 to RM10,000, depending on the level of the destruction,” he said.
He said this during the Chief Minister’s visit programme, where Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor met flood victims at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at the Membakut Islamic Arts Hall, Tuesday.
Arifin, who is also Membakut Assemblyman, said he would bring the proposal to build a Permanent Evacuation Centre (PPK) in Membakut to the next Cabinet meeting.
Highlighting the recurring floods in the district, he emphasised the urgent need for a dedicated facility to streamline the evacuation process and provide better accommodation for flood victims.
