TUARAN: The Sabah Energy Council has approved nearly 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity for several power generation projects to meet the State's energy needs.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the approved capacity, as of last month, aligns with the government's efforts to ensure that energy shortages will no longer be an issue in the State in the future.

He said this initiative was undertaken in January of last year when the state government assumed regulatory control over energy from the federal government.

“We gained regulatory authority over energy, which was devolved from the federal government in January last year.

"As the Chairman of the Sabah Energy Council, I can confirm that, as of last month, we have approved nearly 1,000 MW of energy to be generated.

“This includes the construction of hydroelectric plants, as well as other methods such as solar and wind turbines, which we have now approved for several local companies,” he said.
