“The landslides are still active and maintenance works are ongoing,” he said when commenting on a viral 42-second video containing the words, “Bukit Kimanis 08/03/2025,’Sama-samalah berkeras’ Penghadang konkrit dibuka pengguna jalan raya walaupun jalan Kimanis-Keningau terpaksa ditutup atas faktor keselamatan”.

“Let us be stubborn together.” Concrete barriers were removed by road users even though the Kimanis-Keningau road had to be closed for safety reasons).

Meanwhile, Keningau JKR Division Engineer Nelliah Sittor said the main purpose of JKR closing the road was to ensure the safety of road users.

“It was feared that the still-active slope landslides, involving soil and rock falls, especially during continuous heavy rain, posed a risk of unwanted accidents to road users,” she said.

On Monday, Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said that repair works on the roads affected by landslides on Keningau-Kimanis road were expected to be completed within two weeks.

He said the repair works would also depend on weather conditions and soil stability.  “The road remains closed to all vehicles due to the landslides to allow JKR and the concessionaire company to carry out cleaning and maintenance work,” he said.

Shahelmey reminded the public not to remove the road barriers that had been placed in critical areas, given reports of some road users attempting to remove the barriers at Km 14.3 of Keningau-Kimanis road.
