KOTA KINABALU: Five people, including four transgender women, claimed trial in the Magistrate's Court on Thursday to rioting in the city centre, an incident captured in a viral video last month.
Aldimin Kasim, 25, Nikazwan Sharuddin, 25, Azmil Ali, 18, and Steven Chin Ying Lok, 25, all undocumented, along with Junidi Joi Abdullah, 26, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.
They were jointly accused of committing the offence with the intent to cause injury to Amiruddin Hasimuddin and Shah Amier Andyka Abdullah on Feb 25 at 12:21pm, at the roadside of Api-Api Centre here.
Dzul Elmy fixed April 25 for pre-trial case management and ordered the first four accused to remain in remand, while Junidi was released on extended court bail.
The five were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
