KOTA KINABALU: A private medical clinic, My ClinicPlus Sdn Bhd, was fined a total of RM7,500 by the Sessions Court for selling unregistered medical products to the public.
The company, through its director, pleaded guilty before Judge Elsie Primus to two charges related to selling unregistered items at its premises in Luyang on Sept 7, 2023.
For the first charge, the court imposed a RM2,500 fine for selling a unit of Laroscorbine Platinum 5ml, while the second charge carried a RM5,000 fine for selling six additional unregistered products, including Tationil (Glutathione) 600mg and Accutane 20 Isotretinoin USP 20mg.
Prosecuting Officer Muhammad Nurhalimi Ahmad Azmil argued that the offence posed risks to public health, as the seized products, valued at RM30,590, lacked approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).
Defence counsel Dominic Chew sought a lower fine, stating it was the company’s first offence and that new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) had been introduced to prevent future violations.
