TAWAU: About 40 headstones were found missing at the Kampung Sri Bombalai Laut Muslim Cemetery here, suspected to have been removed and damaged on Friday.

A viral one-minute-six-second video on social media shows a complainant urging families with relatives buried there to verify their loved ones' graves.

The displaced headstones were found scattered around the cemetery, but no witnesses have come forward to report seeing the incident.

The suspected vandalism has caused public concern, with many questioning the motive behind the incident.

District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin confirmed receiving a report at 8.37am, with investigations ongoing to determine the details and identify those responsible.
