JOHOR BAHRU: A man was caught on CCTV stealing a one-year-old Persian-Maine Coon mix cat – still inside its cage – from a home in Taman Jaya Mas here in a case that has since gone viral.

Footage uploaded to the JBTALKS Facebook page on Friday shows the suspect climbing over a wall into the home compound before grabbing the pet’s cage and tossing it back over the same wall.

A screenshot from the CCTV video, which captures the license plate of a suspected getaway vehicle, has been widely shared online to help identify the thief.

The cat’s owner’s friend has appealed to the public for assistance locating the animal and the suspect, as social media users express outrage and call for harsher penalties for pet theft.

According to the comments, the cat was shaven recently and might be a little unrecognisable from the photos.

This incident has reignited concerns over the rising cases of stolen pets, particularly expensive breeds, with netizens urging owners to tighten security measures to protect their animals.
