Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Kidney Society (SKS) met its RM200,000 target during its second golf fundraising tournament held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
SKS Chairman Tan S C however said there remains a significant annual deficit of RM400,000 despite access to subsidies and grants from the Ministry of Health, Social Security Organisation and Sabah Council of Social Services.
“We provide quality and affordable haemodialysis treatment to under privileged patients. Dialysis treatment is very costly, between RM2,000 and RM4,000 per month, and is critical for life.
“On average we receive only a few hundred ringgits per month according to patient financial status where the lower income group will be given priority,” he said, adding that the State Government gives them on average RM150,000 yearly.
