SANDAKAN: Heavy rain since Wednesday has caused flooding in several areas of Sandakan, affecting numerous homes and displacing residents.
In Kampung Sungai Anib, Mile 10, around 20 houses were impacted, with two families, including five adults and a baby, forced to evacuate after floodwaters reached waist level.
Emergency response teams, including the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Fire and Rescue Department, successfully relocated four residents, including an elderly individual, from a flooded house in Kampung Istimewa to a safer area.
Low-lying houses in Kampung Pangeran, Mile 7, were also inundated, rendering pedestrian pathways impassable, while rising water levels in Kampung Sungai Memanjang blocked road access, prompting authorities to monitor the situation closely.
Flooding has also been reported in Jalan Nasalim, Taman Fajar, Jalan Fajar Perdana, and Bulatan Helang, with the Fire and Rescue Department assisting evacuations in Kampung Tinusa, Kampung Jawa, and Jalan Sungai Manila as heavy rain continues.
