TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) intercepted a local cargo boat carrying three tonnes of concealed groceries and controlled goods south of Tanjung Batu at around 6pm on Tuesday.
The vessel, en route from Makmur Jetty to Sebatik Island, was stopped during Ops Pagar Laut by MMEA’s patrol vessel KM Medang.
A 30-year-old local skipper and his 25-year-old Indonesian assistant were found operating the boat without the required permits for the controlled goods.
A search uncovered 2,110 kilogrammes of granulated sugar and 820 kilogrammes of packaged cooking oil hidden onboard.
