KUNAK: More than 60 potholes have been identified along a 300-meter stretch of Jalan Kampung Kg Kadazan 1 and 2, an access route to the village areas here.
The originally paved road has deteriorated severely, with some large potholes making it difficult for light vehicles and even four-wheel drives (4WD) to pass through.
It is understood that the road’s structural decline is partly due to heavy vehicles like trucks using the route to reach nearby workshops. Additionally, trucks transporting oil palm fruit use the alternative road from the main road to the nearby Palm Oil Weighing Center.
Kunak District Council Executive Officer Mohd Nazri Pintal said the council has identified the area, which a local government concessionaire maintains.
“The road is known as Jalan Kg Kadazan 1 and Jalan Kg Kadazan 2. We have contacted the maintenance concession company to repair the damage,” he told the Daily Express on Monday.
He added that initial repairs would be carried out before the Aidilfitri celebration.
The same concessionaire is currently working on road repair on Jalan Jaya Baru near the Pekan Kunak Tamu Market.
“After completing the repairs on Jalan Jaya Baru, they (the concessionaire) will head to the damaged road location along Jalan Kg Kadazan,” he explained.
Residents of Kg Kadazan have expressed frustration over the difficulties they face when navigating the damaged road.
