BEAUFORT: Sipitang is on track to becoming a key hub for oil, gas, and energy in the region, with several mega projects set to be developed at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) in the near future.
Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah revealed that a major investment worth RM8.88 billion will be made in the energy, oil, and gas sector, including the construction of a state-of-the-art port at SOGIP.
"The port will serve as a catalyst for further investments in energy infrastructure, technological advancements, and industrial growth, positioning Sabah as a major energy hub in Southeast Asia," he said.
Additionally, two other major projects— a RM15.5 billion Petroleum Storage and Refining Plant set to begin in April and a RM20 billion Green Steel Plant— will further cement Sipitang’s role as a global player in the oil, gas, and energy industry.
"These projects will not only boost Sabah’s economic growth but will also bring long-term benefits to the local community by creating tens of thousands of job opportunities and attracting new business ventures," Matbali added.
He made these remarks at a breaking-of-fast and ‘Moreh’ event for Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) in the Lumadan Division, Beaufort, on Monday, where he was accompanied by Lumadan PGRS divisional head Mazlan Joehari Manan.
Matbali, who also serves as the Malaysian Cocoa Board (Sabah) Chairman, emphasized that these developments will transform Sipitang into a globally competitive hub while strengthening Sabah’s position in the international energy market.
