SANDAKAN: A mercury spill occurred at the SMK Libaran's science laboratory on Wednesday following a broken thermometer, and no casualties were reported.

The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 12.31pm and arrived at the scene at 12.56pm, 25 kilometres away.

A team of eight firefighters decontaminated the spill using sulphur powder.

After ensuring the area was safe, the operation concluded at 1.23pm.
