KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Immigration Department (JIM Sabah) has repatriated 709 undocumented Filipino migrants to their home country on Wednesday.
Sabah Immigration Director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said the detainees were from the Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau Immigration Depots.
The repatriation, which included individuals aged between three months and 70 years, was carried out via the MV Antonia 1 ferry to Zamboanga City, Philippines.
Since the beginning of the year, 2,700 Filipinos have been repatriated with the cooperation of the Philippine Embassy, which facilitated travel documents for detainees who had completed their prison sentences.
JIM Sabah reported that Filipinos accounted for the highest number of deportees at 2,700, followed by 733 Indonesians, 53 Pakistanis, 32 Chinese, three Vietnamese, and seven individuals from other nationalities, bringing the total to 3,528 deportees.
