Nearly 1,000 summonses issued during Hari Raya Aidilfitri Special Operation

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 946 summons notices during the three-day implementation of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Special Operation (Ops HRA) on March 24-26.

Sabah JPJ Director Harris Ali said a total of 5,481 vehicles were inspected in the operation, with action taken against 467 for various offences.

“The highest recorded offence was expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) with 238 cases, followed by drivers not having a Competent Driving Licence (CDL) with 211 cases and 105 cases involving vehicles not covered by insurance.

“In addition, JPJ also issued 45 summonses against road users who were not wearing helmets or seat belts as well as 15 summonses for the offence of using a mobile phone while driving,” he said after the launch of the Special Ops in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Express Bus Inspection at the North Bus Terminal, Inanam on Thursday.

He said JPJ officers from the Automotive Engineering Division (KA) and Motorcycle Inspectors (PKM) would conduct daily inspections at the three main terminals in Sabah, namely the Inanam, Tawau and Sandakan Bus Terminals.

“They will inspect express buses to ensure that all vehicles comply with the regulations and safety aspects set before being allowed to operate.

“This OPS HRA is coordinated according to the bus movement schedule at each terminal to ensure the safety of passengers and road users,” he added.

He also said restrictions on the driving of goods service vehicles would be implemented two days before and after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow.
