JOHOR BAHRU: A viral video showing a man anxiously filming a drowning boy in a monsoon drain in Masai, while holding an umbrella has sparked online outrage.

The footage, widely circulated on social media, shows the man hurriedly recording as the boy cries for help, swept along by fast-moving waters.

Instead of using the umbrella to assist or intervene, the man continues filming even as another child tries to save the victim.

As the victim disappears into a larger drain, the man shouts, “Hilang! Hilang!” (He’s gone! He’s gone!), while still recording the unfolding tragedy.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
Though others later rescued the boy, netizens condemned the man's inaction, calling it a stark reminder that humanity must come before content.
