Kota Kinabalu: The body of a man was found hanging from a tree branch on the hillside area opposite Kampung Kibagu, near here, on Friday afternoon.
Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station chief, Dep Fire Supt Ordine Gilu, said they received a call from the police at 1.20pm requesting assistance to retrieve the body, believed to be that of a man in his 20s.
A team of seven firefighters, led by operations commander Asama Saruddin, was deployed to the scene, located about 16km from the station.
“Upon arrival, the team confirmed the presence of a man hanging from a tree branch,” he said
He said it took the team about an hour to lower the victim using rescue ropes and a pulley system.
The man was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
“The body was handed over to the police for further action,” he added.
