Rockfall-hit Sandakan road still closed
The public is advised to avoid the affected area and to follow instructions from the authorities to ensure safety.
SANDAKAN: Jalan Buli Sim-Sim remained closed to the public Friday following a rockfall incident on Thursday.  

An alternative route is available via Kampung Sim-Sim towards the town for access to Batu 7 and other areas, while the road from BDC towards Kampung Sim-Sim remains passable as usual.

Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung said clearing operations had been carried out to remove the rocks obstructing the road.  

“However, for the safety of road users and residents in Kampung Sim-Sim, the road will remain temporarily closed,” he said after revisiting the landslide site following the completion of the clean-up operations conducted by the relevant authorities since Thursday.

He said according to the police, the road has yet to be reopened as a slope safety inspection by experts from the Public Works Department in Kota Kinabalu is still ongoing.  

The inspection is crucial to ensure no further risk of rockfalls from the hillside.
