TAWAU: A cheeky Hari Raya visit took a criminal turn when a 26-year-old woman allegedly pocketed a gold necklace while making the rounds at a home in Batu 2, Jalan Apas, on Thursday.
The suspect was swiftly tracked down and nabbed by police the same day at a wooden house in Batu 4, much to her surprise.
The drama unfolded around 3.45pm when a man realised his wife’s necklace had vanished from their jewellery stash right after their guests had left.
Suspicion quickly fell on one particular visitor, leading to a police report that eventually unearthed both the missing item and the suspect.
She is now cooling her heels at the district police headquarters as investigations continue under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which could see her facing up to 10 years behind bars—and a possible fine to match.
