TAWAU: Police have arrested a 54-year-old foreigner suspected of raping his 19-year-old stepdaughter.
Tawau acting district police chief Supt Champin Piuh said police received a report about the alleged incident before launching an operation to track down the suspect.
He said the victim had informed her cousin about the alleged rape via a phone call.
“After being told what happened, the cousin immediately lodged a police report at the Sri Indah police station,” he said, Saturday.
He said 54-year-old man was detained around 6.50pm at an oil palm plantation in Semporna.
Initial investigations found that the suspect is a foreigner and does not possess any valid identification documents, Champin said.
“The suspect was taken to the Semporna police station before being handed over to Tawau district police headquarters for further action,” he added.
