Kota Kinabalu: A 78-year-old man was fined RM4,000 or two months’ jail by the Sessions Court here for cruelly beating a dog that had killed his pet turkeys and tried to attack him.

Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed the sentence to Yong Chen Fah @ Joseph Yong, who pleaded guilty to injuring the dog at his home in Taman Donggongon, Penampang, on Dec 31, 2024.

Yong, who acted out of anger and claimed self-defence, admitted to hitting the Siberian Husky named Coby with a stick several times, causing severe injuries, including optic nerve damage and a ruptured eye.

The court heard that the dog’s owner, Brandon Tim Tony, rescued Coby with the help of his family and brought it for emergency treatment, while both parties lodged separate police reports on the same day.
