KOTA KINABALU: Sabah political secretary and SAPP Youth Chief, Jamain Sarudin, has raised concerns over two official letters from 2019 allegedly showing former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal expressing approval for identity document applications, including MyKAS and MyPR.
In response to Warisan Youth Chief Terence Au’s remarks downplaying the matter, Jamain said the issue is not about the documents’ authenticity — which Au seemingly confirmed — but about Shafie’s handwritten note: “Sukacita dapat diluluskan” (“Gladly approved”).
“That phrase isn’t just a formality — it signals political support for granting citizenship-related documents.
“This raises serious questions about the use of political influence in matters that deeply affect Sabah’s identity and future," Jamain said.
Jamain warned of a long-term impact on Sabah’s cultural and political landscape due to demographic shifts driven by unfiltered naturalisation of foreigners, calling it a form of “social engineering.”
“When citizenship is used as political currency, it threatens the voice and rights of Sabah’s native communities.
“Sabah must not be compromised simply because someone is ‘glad’ to approve documents," he added.
He urged Sabahans to stay vigilant and ensure that past mistakes are not repeated.
