KUALA LUMPUR: Content creators such as YouTubers, influencers and those earning from paid reviews are considered business operators and must declare their income, said Kuala Lumpur Inland Revenue Board (IRB) Principal Assistant Director Syed Mohd Syukree Syed Mohd Kamil,
Bernama reported on Tuesday.
Failure to submit an Income Tax Return Form (ITRF) under Section 112(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967 is a criminal offence and may lead to a fine of up to RM20,000, six months in jail, or both upon conviction.
He said non-compliance may trigger a tax audit and complicate matters for individuals, especially if they lack proper records or confuse personal and business expenses.
Even if a business is running at a loss, income must still be reported annually via Form B or e-B on the MyTax Portal between March 1 and July 15, he said during the Bernama Radio Tax Clinic programme.
Proper tax reporting, he added, not only ensures legal compliance but also boosts business credibility and opens access to government incentives and support schemes.
