Sabah ICs key to ending decades-old identity woes: Yong
KOTA KINABALU: Issuing Sabah identity cards (ICs) exclusively to Sabahan Malaysian citizens is seen as the most practical solution to end decades of problems caused by dubious federal-issued documents to illegal immigrants, said former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee (pic).

Yong, also SAPP President, said the 2014 Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) findings, backed by solid evidence and witness testimonies, have already addressed the core issues and should no longer be debated.

Among the testimonies was that of a foreign-born individual who was wrongly issued a MyKad indicating he was born in Sabah, later rising to political and corporate leadership under false pretences.

Yong stressed that issuing Sabah ICs does not contravene the Federal Constitution or related laws, as they merely distinguish genuine Sabahans and do not grant citizenship to non-Malaysians.
