KOTA KINABALU: City Hall (DBKK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an NGO and two private firms to tackle marine plastic pollution and electronic waste.

Assistant Minister to Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir, also the Minister in charge of DBKK, said the collaboration would help address persistent issues like floating plastic bottles, used cooking oil, and increased e-waste.

He noted the initiative complements existing efforts, such as DBKK’s deployment of a mechanical skimmer boat to clean coastal waters.

The State Government has so far provided one boat and will soon deliver two more to support DBKK’s cleanup operations.

He said that maintaining clean marine areas is vital for Kota Kinabalu’s image as an international tourism gateway.

He said this after witnessing Wednesday's MoU signing between DBKK, Marine Research Foundation, Legenda Bumimas Sdn Bhd, and My Protech Sdn Bhd (Arus Oil) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
