KOTA KINABALU: The late Sabah Courts Director, Marutin Pagan, who died in a road accident in Sibu last week, was fondly remembered not only for his dedication to the judiciary but also for his quirky love of collecting blazers from bundle shops after moving to Sabah.

Registrar of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak, Nixon Kenney Kumbong, shared this anecdote during a remembrance tribute at the Court Complex on Thursday, recalling Marutin’s ten-piece bundle blazer collection and his belief in good fashion at low cost.

Marutin, who was appointed to the post in August 2024, was also known for his interest in perfumes, fountain pens, reading, and a fascination with computers, reflecting his vibrant personality beyond his legal career.

A graduate of the University of Malaya in 1994, he began his career with the Attorney General’s Chambers and later served in various roles across Bintulu, Kuching, Miri, and Kota Samarahan before returning to Kuching as a Sessions Court Judge in 2017.

Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli paid tribute by urging the legal fraternity to honour Marutin’s legacy with humility and resilience as judges and court staff from both states gathered to mourn his passing.
