Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will recall eight Sabah assemblymen implicated in the alleged mining scandal, including whistleblower Albert Tei, to submit documents related to the investigation.
Its Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said his party is serious in its efforts to investigate the scandal and would recall those involved.
“We need to verify the content of the video, we will play it and show it to them, ask them to give their statements. We want to know whether the money is corruption or donation.
“We are currently awaiting the results of forensic analysis of 10 video recordings.
“The 10 videos that are allegedly related are currently being investigated by our forensics,” he said.
All the videos being investigated are aimed at ensuring the authenticity and validity of the evidence.
“All the videos need to be analysed because we want to ensure their authenticity because this is important for every piece of evidence that will be used in the case, and this evidence cannot have any elements of editing, super imposition or the like.
“The investigation will also continue, and I assure you, there was no interference from the Sabah Government in this case. We will open the case after there is an issue and investigate as usual, including the statement of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor which we also recorded twice.
“For your information, previously Albert Tei has also never been present to record his statement with the MACC,” he said.
Meanwhile, Azam said former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would also be summoned for the purpose of submitting the documents required for his case.
“The first phase of the investigation has been conducted and will now be summoned again in two weeks and we will ask about the asset declaration that has not yet been completed.
“He will be summoned and we need an explanation regarding the relevant documents because we cannot wait for too long.”
Ismail was reported as a suspect in the investigation into the case following the discovery of some RM177 million after a raid on “safe houses”.
“This seizure (RM177 million) is the largest seizure of cash and gold bars, as I explained during a recent press conference,” he said.
