PENAMPANG: Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang reaffirmed the crucial role of Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and Urban Community Development Committees (JKDB) in managing and developing their respective areas.
Addressing JKKK and JKDB chairpersons at a meeting in Kg Koidupan, she highlighted their importance as vital links between the community and the government, acting as frontline responders to local needs.
Recognising their dedication, Jannie announced a RM1,000 allocation to each committee for small-scale community projects, along with a RM25,000 fund for urgent clean-up initiatives requiring specialised equipment.
She further pledged her continued advocacy for increased allowances and improved welfare for JKKK and JKDB members, emphasising the need for a review of their compensation to reflect their responsibilities, mirroring recent increases for village chiefs.
The meeting also addressed critical safety concerns, particularly regarding 12 identified squatter settlements in Penampang.
These areas raise concerns about illegal goods smuggling and the potential sale of radioactive waste, prompting a commitment to increased monitoring by JKKK and relevant agencies to mitigate risks to public safety.
Jannie concluded by reiterating her unwavering support for the committees, promising continued policy and resource assistance.
