Opposition won’t be silent, says Bung
“All matters troubling the people deserve to be brought to the Assembly. Any attempt to sideline the opposition’s voice through the use of majority power must not be allowed," said Bung.
Kota Kinabalu: Umno Sabah leader Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the people want clear, comprehensive, and accountable explanations in response to major issues currently affecting the state administration.

Speaking ahead of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, Monday, Bung, who is Lamag Assemblyman said the session is not merely routine.

“It is likely to be the final sitting before the DUN is dissolved to pave the way for the next state election.

“This sitting must not be used as a platform to shape political narratives or cover up weaknesses. Instead, it should serve as the most appropriate forum for open debate on matters concerning the people,” said Bung in a statement, Saturday.

He said it is unacceptable for any party to remain silent in the face of irregularities that have a direct impact on the people.

“Checks and balances must be exercised with the utmost responsibility, particularly in matters related to investments, economic agreements, the management of natural resources including land and mineral assets, as well as large-scale development projects involving substantial funding,” he said.

“Sabah cannot continue to be ‘wealthy on paper’ while its people struggle with hardship, unemployment and a widening gap in development between urban and rural areas,” he said.

“All matters troubling the people deserve to be brought to the Assembly. Any attempt to sideline the opposition’s voice through the use of majority power must not be allowed.

“This Assembly is not a stage for political theatrics, it should serve as a platform to address the people’s concerns openly and honestly.

“If the GRS government has done no wrong and has nothing to hide, then let the facts and figures speak for themselves. Do not resort to excuses or evade debate. A broad and inclusive space for discussion must be guaranteed,” he said.

Bung urged all assemblymen, whether in government or opposition to put the interests of the state and its people above personal or party agendas.
