Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has extended his condolences to the family of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.
In a statement, Hajiji also prayed for the late statesman's soul to be blessed with mercy and placed among the righteous and pious.
He described Tun Abdullah, who served as Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009, as a leader who had contributed significantly to the country, including launching five Malaysian Economic Corridors during his tenure—among them, the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) in 2008.
“One of the objectives of the SDC project was to position Sabah as a gateway for trade, investment, and tourism, create job opportunities, promote digital literacy, and build a harmonious and livable state regardless of race or religion. The project has greatly benefited the state's development,” he said.
Hajiji also highlighted Tun Abdullah’s humble and people-centric leadership, noting that he was a friendly and well-liked figure during his six-year tenure as Prime Minister.
