Kota Kinabalu: The Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Ministry is aware of the recurring floods in Kampung Rampayan here caused by the overflow of Sungai Rampayan near Institut Sinaran due to silt buildup, said Assistant Minister Datuk Hendrus Anding.
He said the maintenance of Sungai Rampayan falls under the Main Drainage Maintenance Package 5, with dredging works scheduled six times over the five-year contract period from 2021 to 2026.
“The Ministry is aware of the flooding incident at Kampung Rampayan caused by the overflow of the Sungai Rampayan tributary.
“Dredging works are carried out as part of the maintenance package,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Tuesday in response to a question from Darau assemblyman Azhar Matussin.
In response to a supplementary question, Hendrus said maintenance works are carried out twice a year, with each round costing an estimated RM36,400.
He added that six dredging operations had been conducted so far, covering a stretch of 800 metres, and the Ministry would conduct a more focused study to address the issue.
