KUNAK: Three couples were caught for khalwat during a religious enforcement operation at two budget hotels here on Thursday night.
The operation, conducted by Jheains Kunak with police support, ran from 10pm to 4.30am. One man escaped by jumping out of a hotel window.
According to Jheains, one detainee is a civil servant, while another couple claimed to be in a traditional “village marriage” without legal proof. One woman was found to still be legally married, and another couple claimed they were engaged.
All suspects will be investigated under the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment of Sabah.
Jheains said such operations will continue to curb social misconduct and urged the public to observe proper moral conduct.
