KOTA MARUDU: A 15-year-old boy was electrocuted while spearfishing in a river at Kampung Minansad, here, on Thursday.

Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the victim was spearfishing with three friends when he came into contact with a live wire around 7pm.

He said based on a brief report received from the Fire and Rescue Department, the boy was found in the river where a fallen tree had caused an electric cable to break and fall into the water.

He added that there were no signs of foul play at the scene.

“The victim was removed from the river by Fire and Rescue personnel, and a medical officer confirmed his death at 10.02pm at the scene,” said Simiun.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
