PUTRAJAYA: Sabah has called for greater engagement and coordination from the Federal Government to ensure state rights and interests are protected in the implementation of national climate policies.
Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, Phoong Jin Zhe, made the call during the National Climate Change Action Council (NCCAC) meeting in Putrajaya this morning.
He represented the Sabah State Government and the Chief Minister at the meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“In the meeting, I presented Sabah’s position on the upcoming Climate Change Act and related national policies, especially concerning carbon capture and carbon trading,” said Phoong in a statement.
He stressed that Sabah’s rights must be upheld throughout the process.
“The Sabah Government calls for stronger engagement and coordination from the Federal Government to ensure that Sabah’s rights and interests are fully protected in this process.”
Phoong also highlighted Sabah’s longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability.
“Sabah has always been a pioneer in carbon neutrality and environmental sustainability. We are dedicated to contribute our efforts in preservation of our shared home on Earth,” he added.
The NCCAC meeting was attended by key federal and state leaders to discuss policy alignment on climate action and carbon market mechanisms ahead of the proposed Climate Change Act.
