BEAUFORT: A 16-year-old boy was killed when his Honda EX-5 motorcycle collided with a Perodua Viva near Kampung Nukahan along KM21 Jalan Beaufort-Menumbok, here, on Sunday.
Awang Muhamad Shahrizwan Abdullah, who was riding without a licence, was believed to be heading towards Kuala Penyu from Beaufort.
The four people travelling in the Viva escaped injuries, except for a 17-year-old youth who sustained injuries to his mouth resulting in the loss of a tooth.
District Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng said police were alerted about the accident at about 8.15pm.
Preliminary findings showed that the motorcyclist tried to overtake a car before colliding with the Viva from the opposite direction.
The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames.
Medical officers from the Kuala Penyu Hospital pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
Wong reminded parents not to allow their children to drive/ride without a licence and advised teenagers to comply with traffic regulations, especially when overtaking.
Meanwhile, Kuala Penyu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Zulhalim Abidin said they received a distress call at 7.26pm prompting a team to rush to the scene some 17km away.
The team arrived at 7.44pm and proceeded to extinguish the fire.
