Kota Kinabalu: Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Frederick Kugan said a viral video showing an overturned lorry with logs that are of a huge diameter scattered across a road has no connection to the recent devastating flooding in Nabawan.
Responding to enquiries from Daily Express, he said the logs shown in the video originated from a Yayasan Sabah concession in Tongod, specifically within the Pinangah Forest Reserve and were being transported for export via Seguntor, Sandakan.
He said the flooding in Nabawan was primarily triggered by a landslide within the Bukit Pekan Nabawan Forest Reserve (Class IV). He did not say what caused the soil at the reserve to loosen to the extent of causing landslide.
He said no logging or land clearing activities were taking place within the forest reserves.
