Man killed in Keningau crash

KENINGAU: A man was killed while a college student suffered injuries in an accident involving their cars – a Proton Iswara and a Proton Saga - along Jalan Sook-Keningau, Tuesday. 

Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Garai identified the deceased as a 44-year-old travelling in the Iswara. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The injured Saga driver, a 22-year-old college student, was sent to the Keningau Hospital for treatment following the 6am accident. 

Preliminary investigations showed the Iswara was travelling from Sook to Keningau, while the Saga was heading in the opposite direction.

The Saga driver lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a bend, resulting in the collision with the Iswara on the opposite lane. 

Sook Fire and Rescue Station Chief Faizal Ahmad said they received an emergency call at 6.05am.

Meanwhile, in KIMANIS, a 38-year-old woman sustained serious injuries when her Honda City collided with a Toyota Vios in Kampung Oyong, Tuesday. 

Kimanis Fire and Rescue Station Chief Nelson Ponji said a 6.51am distress call prompted a team to the scene.

Firefighters had to extricate the woman who was trapped inside the City, while two others in the Vios managed to exit their vehicle before rescuers arrived.  

The duo, in their 30s, sustained slight injuries.
