TAWAU: A 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threatening a 67-year-old retiree via WhatsApp on Sunday. 

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the local suspect was arrested in front of a house in Taman Semarak about 3.30pm following a police report lodged by the victim. 

The victim claimed to have received threatening messages from the suspect during a WhatsApp conversation between them. 

“Initial investigations found that the suspect sent messages containing serious threats against the victim, including threats to injure and kill certain parties,” Jasmin said in a statement, here, Monday. 

He said no property seizures or losses were reported in the incident and the suspect also had no prior criminal record. 

In light of this, he advised the public not to misuse telecommunication applications.
