SANDAKAN: A massive fire destroyed 21 wooden houses and a storage shed along Jalan SK Batu Putih, Kampung Batu Putih, on Wednesday morning.

According to Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung, they received a distress call via MERS999 at 10.40am, and the first team arrived at the 16km-away location by 10.58am.

The fire, which engulfed approximately three acres, was met with immediate extinguishing efforts upon the arrival of firefighters.

Two individuals sustained hand burns and received initial treatment from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team at the scene.

The blaze was fully brought under control by 11.47am, and the team has entered the overhaul phase to prevent any possible reignition while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
