KUCHING: The Dewan Rakyat has not received any motion for face-to-face negotiations concerning the demand to restore one-third of parliamentary seats to Sabah and Sarawak, according to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
He said the proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is a policy matter under the Cabinet’s purview and has yet to be formally submitted to Parliament.
“I haven’t received anything yet… maybe it’s still under Cabinet discussion,” Johari told reporters after attending the 4th WAIPA Coordination Committee Meeting on April 22, as reported by the
Sarawak Tribune.
Johari clarified that his role is limited to managing debates in the Dewan Rakyat, while matters of policy and negotiation are solely decided by the executive.
He added that if the proposal is eventually submitted, whether it proceeds in Parliament would depend entirely on the government’s decision.
