Woman killed, son hurt in Tuaran crash

Tuaran: A 47-year-old mother was killed while her son was seriously injured after their car skidded and crashed into the rear of a parked tour bus along Jalan Sulaman in Gayang, here, Thursday.

In the 2.35pm incident, the woman, who was seated in the front passenger seat of a Perodua Alza, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries to her head and body.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Senior Fire Superintendent Mohammad Nor Amit, said the fire department received an emergency call about the incident at 2:41pm.

He said a team of eight personnel rushed to the scene with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle.

“Upon arrival, the team found two victims trapped in the front section of the Perodua Alza. They used special equipment to extricate the victims.

“The woman, was pronounced dead by the Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel, while the 18-year-old male driver sustained serious injuries,” Mohammad Nor said.

He added that the woman’s remains was handed over to the police for further action.

“The injured male victim was transported to Tuaran Hospital in a MOH ambulance.

Mohammad said the cause of the incident is still under investigation and the operation concluded at 5.05pm.
