Cooking oil smuggling bid foiled, two held
The suspects detained and items seized.
LAHAD DATU: Marine police here foiled an attempt to smuggle out cooking oil via Alice Reef waters, in Tungku, on Friday.

Sabah Marine Police (Region Four) Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said his men spotted a speedboat moving fast in the area at 4.29pm and tailed the boat.

“They managed to intercept the boat and upon inspection found cooking oil in packets on the boat, believed to be smuggled out to a neighbouring country,” he said, Saturday.

“The skipper and a passenger were detained and the items seized.

“All confiscated items, including the speedboat valued around RM63,365, were taken back to the marine base for further investigation,” he added.

Mohd Nazri said the two detainees will also be investigated under the Immigration Act as they did not have any documents on them.
