PENAMPANG: A Saturday night market has added vibrancy and excitement to Donggongon township, a joint collaboration between the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Penampang Municipal Council.

KCCI President Datuk Ladislaus Maluda said the initiative aims at creating a lively and entertaining atmosphere for both the local community and visitors.

“We have a day market, but not a night market. There was one organised many years ago but did not last long for reasons unknown,” he said at the launch.

“Today, we want to make a difference. We want to create an atmosphere that is not only entertaining but also enjoyable for everyone.” It would focus on promoting key items such as food and local crafts.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
Ladislaus“We have many young entrepreneurs who have developed various types of food. This is a good platform for them to showcase their talents in food preparation, gain exposure and do a little business at the same time,” he said.

He said besides culinary creativity, the night market would also feature crafts, souvenirs and other locally made products, mainly targeting tourists.

“There will be entertainment with a difference — something fresh and exciting,” he said.

A minimal fee is charged for each vendor. If the response is positive, it would be extended to Sundays as well.

Patrons were entertained by the local Evergreen Hybrid Country Band while 55 stalls were busy offering a wide variety of food and drinks.

Ladislaus said KCCI has mobilised promotion teams to reach out and promote the night market to a wider audience.

“It is not just an event, rather a community celebration,” he added.
